Guides & Links to Resources

Some of the better guides from around the net, plus a couple of myself.

Wiring for DCC / Turnouts / Tracks

  1. Turnout, slips, three-way and crossings wiring PDF by DCC Concepts. While written by a manufacturer, its one of the best illustrated and easily written guides on wiring tracks plus to throwing switches sensor based when approaching from the other end.
  2. Allan Gartner’s guide for DCC wiring is a classis, also has good instructions on modifying Peco Electrofrog turnouts which is not needed in N whereas it’s best practice in HO Scale.

My Product Exploring guides

  1. Decoders
  2. Block Detection – on a budget
  3. Auto Reversing Modules

How-to’s blogged earlier

  1. Setup Z21 using your own router rather than the included
  2. Realistic scale platform width & heights
  3. Good looking curves: NEM 111 (radius) and NEM 113 (transition curves)
  4. Connections on NEM 651 decoder socket

Enjoyable N Scale blogs  / links

  • Quinntopia – video loc reviews, generally interesting blog
  • Locgeek – many good digital (DCC) product reviews
